I'm a Christian.
I am not a fanatical Christian.
I believe that God loves everybody. He sent his son to die on a cross so that we can all have the opportunity to go to Heaven. Speaking as a parent who lost a child, you don't do this because you hate the people you are sacrificing your child for. You do this because you love everyone and you want to give them the opportunity to be saved.
We are human beings. We are not infallible. We have free will and we make decisions. God does not do horrible things to us as punishment. Soldiers are not dying because the US military is inclusive of homosexuals. Coal Miners in West Virginia did not die because God hates homosexuals. God loves everyone. He does not like sin. He does not spout rhetoric. He does not spread hate and he does not want us to spread hate, especially in his name.
Christian means Christ-like. I want to live my life like Christ. I am not as good as him. I am not nearly as good as him. I don't stand a chance of ever being as good as him because I am 100 percent human. I do love people though. I love everyone and I want to see them go to Heaven. I don't think everything is okay. Some things are wrong. Things are far more black and white than we think. We know what is right and what is wrong, we just chose to use our free will to convince ourselves that things are okay.
I believe we live in a society where what feels good is pervasive and personal responsibility is not encouraged. People do whatever they like whenever they like then blame it on their parents, their priests, their coworkers, their dogs, God...anyone besides the person that actually did it. Girls are promiscuous and have abortions to eliminate children that they don't want to take responsibility for. People commit acts of adultery and blame their spouse. They molest children and say it is because they were abused. People ignore traffic laws and are involved in accidents and blame the other person. No one wants to say I was wrong and I apologize.
People say hurtful things to other people and say it is in the name of God. God does not want us to hurt our fellow man. Jesus tells us to love one another. That's my three year old's memory verse for the week. I believe that every human being on the face of this earth has the right to make decisions for his or herself. I believe every human being on the face of this earth should take responsibilty for those decisions. I do not like be labeled hatefilled or bigoted because I am a Christian with conservative values. I am not filled with hate. I want to see everyone accept Christ as their personal savior so they can go to Heaven. I have no control over what other people do, though.
I can let people know what I believe and show them what being a faithful Christian looks like. I want my life to be a testament to God's Grace and his infinite love. I am a happy, blessed person. I owe all of that to the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made fore me all those thousands of years ago when he died on a cross.
