Our Summer Vacation

The hubby's family is going to Tennessee for vacation the first week of July. They asked us to go. They've got two cabins and plenty of room for us. While we appreciate the offer, we've decided to pass. I haven't accumulated enough vacation time to go down during the week and we're not sure we can afford it. Additionally, July 1 is our 10 year anniversary and we thought about leaving the children with whatever sucker we can trick into watching them for the night and taking night away for ourselves. While I know hubby's family loves us, I'm not sure we'd get as warm a reception if we showed up in Tennessee without the punks. Sometimes I think people only tolerate us for our boys. If you've met them you understand.

So, our tentative plans for vacation are set. Hold onto your hats. It's exciting stuff and I've no wish to completely blow your mind by just throwing it out there all at once. And, I beg you try to contain your jealousy once you've read our plans.

Saturday we're going to the Columbus Zoo. The neighbors have agreed to go with us. J. is getting a van to drive so that we can all ride together. I really like the neighbors. J and I are wonderful people to have living next door and they clearly think the world of our boys. Their only child is grown and also lives next door to us. They have no small children. I think maybe their memory is a bit clouded. They actually want to be confined to a vehicle for at least three hours with a 3 1/2 year old and a 19 month old. They're my children. I gave birth to them and love them tremendously. I really do. But, to be perfectly honest, I'm still trying to concoct some scheme to get out of that vehicle. I certainly would never, in a million years, volunteer to ride with them if they weren't my children. I'm not sure what to make of that.

We're going to the zoo but that's not all. As I said previously, July 1 is our 10 year anniversary. My birthday and mother's day are barely ever recognized as significant days but our anniversary will be commemorated, so long as I make all of the plans and arrange everything. We're thinking about a night away. We haven't decided where. It has to be cheap, but I want a  hotel with room service because, since I'm not travelling for work anymore, I never get to do room service. I love room service. I can check into a room that I won't have to clean at all, put on my pjs, get something to eat, watch some tv and never leave the room. That's my idea of a fantastic evening! Anyway, we're thinking about Lexington, because that's the city I'm the most familiar with and we rarely get to go there together. He's interested in Frankfort or Louisville. I've been there. I don't think he has. I thought about checking out Virginia. We don't want to drive more than 3 hours so it limits our options. Obviously those plans aren't concrete yet.

That's our vacation. We're going to the zoo and we might spend a night in a hotel. Man, we're going to have to settle down. We're parents. We've got responsibilities. We can't keep spending all of our time partying like this.

Hey, you can always come up here for a long weekend. We have plenty of room and you wouldn't have to cook. :) We could take the kids to the pool or park or just hang around the house. Think about it. You are more than welcome and we would love to have you all!!
