Work!

It's been a while so I thought I'd better put up a new post. I know how all of you hang on for these. On the edge of your seat? Right? I know. You're bashful.

Anyway.....

It's been a tough few days at work. I've been updating files at the end of the quarter. After we've paid for someones training, we follow them until they go to work. Not physically follow them, of course. I'm not a real stalker, only an employment stalker. After we've verified that they have worked 3 quarters, we complete them from our services and their file either gets shredded or sent to Central Records. That's what I did part of the week last week. It's my favorite part of the job so far. I spent several days doing it though. That wasn't the toughest part though, even though I did call or email about a couple of hundred people.

The toughest part of the last couple of weeks didn't happen until Wednesday of last week and I didn't find out about it until Thursday. The youth trainer in Martin County quit. No problem right? She works with people under 18, I work with people over 18. Normally, that would be true. Right now though, we're slap in the middle of the summer work program. People are getting enrolled into the program, getting paid and employers are signing up. This was previously the responsibility of the youth trainer. Who do you suppose is going to man this program in her stead? Yes, the beleaguered Career Advisor. So, now I've got clients in school, going into school, getting ready for the fall semester, demanding reimbursement for receipts, etc, and at least 45 WorkNow Summer workers. And, that's not enough. I mean that's not enough summer workers. They actually want the program to have at least 3 times that many. I guess it's going to fall to me to recruit these people and find places for them to work.

I know you all are so interested in what I do that this little glimpse only whets your appetite. That's all I can provide though. It is my policy that, after 4:30 PM (or 4:25, 4:20 or 4:15, whatever the case may be), when I leave the office I don't think about it anymore, other than to talk about how absurd some people are.

And let me tell you, there are some absurd people out there.

In other news, here are some pictures of my flowers. I said in an earlier post that I would put them up. I never did. Here they are. I've got more but my baby is wanting his mommy right now so I'll put them up later.
